DAYTON, Ohio - Area hospitals are scheduling more surgeries and using more blood products. Help Community Blood Center meet the demand by supporting the Donor Strong Blood Drive Friday, May 22 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dayton CBC Donor Center, 349 South Main St.

Donors must make an appointment at or by calling (937) 461-3220. All donors at CBC blood drives must wear a face mask. Everyone who registers to donate will receive the new "Wake Up and Give" t-shirt and will be automatically entered in the drawing to win a Sleep Number bed.

The Donor Strong Blood Drive comes before Memorial Day weekend and the first anniversary of the Memorial Day tornado outbreak that devastated the Dayton area.

"A year ago, with tornado damage everywhere, donors responded by giving blood and protecting the blood supply," said CBC Donor Relations Director Tracy Morgan. "In the middle of that emergency, no one could have imagined the COVID-19 crisis we face today. But we know that in troubled times our community will do what it takes to keep us 'Donor Strong' and ready to save lives."

CBC safeguards against COVID-19 transmission include checking the temperature of donors before entering a blood drive, mandating face masks, and requiring donors to make appointments. If all appointments to a blood drive are filled, donors are asked to please schedule on a different day.

CBC has launched the "Wake Up & Donate Blood Drive" to anticipate the traditional increase in demand for blood donations during the summer months. Everyone who registers to donate May 4 through Oct. 31 is automatically entered in the grand prize drawing for a luxury Sleep Number bed.

The campaign includes three special-edition donor t-shirts and CBC is challenging donors to collect all three designs. Eligible donors can increase their chances of winning the Sleep Number bed by entering the drawing up to three times during the May 4 - Oct. 31 campaign.
