“SAVE OUR SUPPLY” SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED

DAYTON, OH (May 18, 2010) — Scholarship applications inundated Community Blood Center (CBC) as the deadline approached to select five students who would receive one of five $1,000 scholarships.  Students who attended a high school that hosted a blood drive in the 2009/2010 school year were eligible to apply.  The scholarships will be presented to the winning students at their high school awards programs.  A committee reviewed the applications and chose the following five winners:

S  Kimi Slonkosky –  Versailles High School, Versailles (Will be attending Otterbein University)

S  Erin Greenwood  – Shawnee High School, Springfield (Will be attending Cornerstone University)

S  Jill Hemmelgarn –  Versailles High School, Versailles (Will be attending Wright State University)

S  Kaitlin Bernard – Bellbrook High School, Bellbrook (Will be attending The Ohio State University)

S  Brent Stammen – Versailles High School, Versailles (Will be attending The Ohio State University)

The Save Our Supply (SOS) scholarship program was sponsored by Vectren Corporation and Community Blood Center.  This is the fourth time CBC has offered a high school scholarship program. The goal is to raise awareness among high school age students about the critical need for blood donors.  To be considered, the applicants submitted an essay regarding high school blood donor recruitment, recruitment marketing materials, a letter of recommendation, and transcripts.  Also considered was the students’ participation in their high school blood drives.  The SOS program was made possible in part by a donation from Vectren Corporation.  A committee selected by CBC and Vectren chose the scholarship winners.  Awards will be presented at the Senior Awards Programs at the respective high schools.
