‘Extreme’ Blood donors come out for blood drive

The Miami Valley’s Community Blood Center (CBC) held a two day blood drive in partnership with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last week. Over 120 people participated in the drive, successfully donating over 100 pints of life-saving blood.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has partnered with local blood centers and food banks around the country to hold a blood drive and food drive in all of the build cities during their sixth season of filming.

Summer is a challenging time for the blood supply as student donors are on break and CBC’s regular donors get busy with seasonal activities and vacations. CBC encourages you to be a summer lifesaver and “extreme” donor and donate blood!

Anyone who registers to donate blood now through September 5 at CBC is qualified to win a 2009 Honda Civic. (Must be 18 to win). For official rules, visit www.givingblood.org.

Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name.  Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card.  Donors must be at least 16 years of age (16 year old donors must have parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch & blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good physical health.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically.  Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1(800)388-GIVE.
