My Blood, Your Blood is a multi-media science education package that will create a positive reaction to learning, and explain the blood donation process on a level that children can understand.
Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. As we are coming to a close of 2009, Community Blood Center wants to express a sincere Thank you for all your hard work at keeping our blood supply at a safe level. Each high school is doing its part in serving this community by having very successful blood drives.
During this holiday season, people are very busy visiting family, getting those decorations up, and cooking all those great holiday traditions. All those traditions are wonderful, but let’s add another tradition to our list this year, and give the gift of life by taking one hour of our day and donating blood. As you are aware, every pint donated saves up to 3 lives. In order to keep our supply stable and meet patient blood needs, we still need to have at least 350 donors a day to donate. What a tremendous, selfless gift we can give to someone in need.
2010 is definitely around the corner; it’s in our view. As your community education specialist, we have some great ideas ready to emerge. CBC would like to form a focus group. The purpose of this group would be to make high school students aware of their opportunity to become donors and the effects it would provide for local hospitals. This group would help to develop strategies for donorships, incentives, and programs t help increase the visibility of blood drives. This focus group could be a wonderful way of a student getting involved with volunteering for his/her community. It would be an pioneering way for students across our 15 counties to meet one another and share ideas on improving high school blood drives. If you know of any student who would be interested in being a part of this innovative group, please have the student(s) contact, Cristina Pickle, Education Specialist@ cpickle@cbccts.org or call 937-461-3453.
Again, Have a safe and Happy Holiday!
Warmly,
Cristina M. Pickle
